The NoDa (North Davidson) neighborhood, Charlotte, NC has a lot of character. The main street, Davidson is what gives the neighborhood its name and it's got a lot of character. The following photos are from my walk to the French bakery where I chose to get dinner. Along the way I witnessed a father throwing the ball around with his children, which sadly seems to be a novelty these days.
There was an event at the Spectrum Center in downtown Charlotte, NC. I don't know what it was for but I was wanting to explore and take photos while I was there. With my large Mamiya 7 hanging around my neck, people called me out to take their photos for a couple dollars. It was fun bargaining and people were good sports about it.
Technical information:
The reason why these images have different aspect ratios and color palettes would be because I used two cameras: an Olympus Stylus Epic, the high-end consumer point and shoot camera as well as a Mamiya 7 with a 65mm lens. The camera though serviced before my trip had a loose lens mount which made the lens something like a tilt shift lens if I didn't hold it properly. It's the reason why my images in Boone, NC have their focus plane a little bit off. These images were shot on Provia 100 and Velvia 100, which have a very different look, but since I purchased the film last minute, I bought whatever my local camera store had. All images were scanned with a Fujifilm S5 Pro, an ancient rebranded Nikon DSLR with a special CCD sensor. I purchased it to experiment as scanning film is something like a mountain that takes a lot of creativity to climb for an affordable price. With the 40mm Nikkor macro lens for the APS-C system, I was able to make pleasing images. I wouldn't necessarily print these as they need more work, but there is character in the final product that I enjoy looking at.
